Verdicchio is one of the most famous wines from the Marche region, an intrical part of our tradition and the history of our territory.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

It is all about an indigenous grape variety which has been cultivated in the Marches since the 16<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> century. The name \u201cVerdicchio\u201d appears for the first time in 1557 in the translation of a Spanish essay about agriculture \u201cLibro de agricoltura\u201d (Toledo, 1520), written by the academic Mambrino Roseo from Fabriano (1525-1585). In this essay the name \u201ctorront\u00e8s\u201d was changed to \u201cVerdicchio\u201d. Even in 1569, the botanist Costanzo Felici in his work entitled \u201cDel\u2019insalata e piante che in qualunque modo vengono per cibo del\u2019homo\u201d, listed the grapes which were good to be eaten, and Verdicchio was one of them. It is assumed that Verdicchio comes from ancient grapes like aminea, itriola or marana dating from Roman times, or from the medieval grapes trebulane. However, several recent scientific and genetic analyses in 1991 and in 2003 have highlighted a very close relationship between Verdicchio and Trebbiano di Soave (Verona). This confirms the idea that this vine was imported to the city of Jesi and to the Esino valley by the Lombards. In fact, the city of Jesi in 1470 invited (\u201cInvito del Comune di Jesi\u201d) the Lombards, who were both farmers and artisans, to settle in the area in order to repopulate the territory after a terrible plague.<\/span><\/p>\n
